Our office and staff member are well equipped to provide quality oral health care to children with special needs It is our sincere hope that our patients will develop the coping skills and maturity necessary to receive dental care in the traditional manner. We do, however, recognize the unique needs of all of our patients. Age, personality, anxiety level, health history and treatment needs are all considered in recommending treatment modalities best suited to facilitate your child's dental treatment. Ensuring the safety of your child while providing the best possible experience is very important to our dental team.

NITROUS OXIDE OR "LAUGHING GAS"
Nitrous Oxide or "Laughing Gas" may be recommended to facilitate your child's treatment. Your child will breathe a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen during treatment. The goal when using nitrous oxide is to reduce anxiety while increasing your child's tolerance of uncomfortable portions of their dental treatment as well as the length of their time in the dental chair.
ORAL SEDATION
Oral Sedation may be recommended for patients whose treatment needs and ability to cooperate warrant additional measures to manage their behavior during treatment. During an oral sedation, your child will ideally be very relaxed, with delayed reaction times and lethargic movement. Although your child may be drowsy during treatment, our dental team will continue to communicate with him or her in an age-appropriate manner.

OUT-PATIENT HOSPITAL VISIT
An Out-Patient Hospital Visit may be recommended for patients if their projected treatment needs and/or health history warrant this treatment modality. Patients who are candidates for treatment in the hospital under general anesthesia have the benefit of having all of their care provided during one visit in the controlled setting of the hospital while they are asleep. Dr. Burkitt is currently on staff at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.
Please know that recommendations are customized for your child based on Dr. Burkitt’s findings during their exam as well your child’s experience in our office.
